Priyanka Chopra Compares Hollywood and Bollywood: A Tale of Two Industries

Priyanka Chopra

Priyanka Chopra, who debuted in Hollywood with Quantico in 2015, has largely focused on her Western career since then. Despite her Hollywood success, she remains a beloved figure in Indian cinema. During a recent visit to Mumbai, Priyanka spoke about the differences between Bollywood and Hollywood.

In an interview with Forbes India, Priyanka said Bollywood relies on ‘jugaad’—a flexible, quick-fix approach. On the other hand, Hollywood operates with strict rules and well-defined schedules. “Hollywood involves a lot of paperwork,” she noted. “You get tons of emails, and call times are precise, like 7:32 pm or am. It’s very structured, with little room for changes unless the director allows it. Everything runs on a tight, organized system.”

She contrasted this with Bollywood’s more spontaneous nature: “In India, there’s a mindset of ‘It’ll work out,’ and we make things happen. It’s a different way of working, but it reflects the country’s spirit. Our creativity is often organic, and we might decide to change things on the spot.”

Priyanka added that, apart from these cultural differences, filmmaking across the globe shares a common language—scripts, assistant directors, and producers are present everywhere. Her last Bollywood film was The Sky is Pink in 2019. Though she was announced for Farhan Akhtar’s Jee Le Zaraa with Alia Bhatt and Katrina Kaif, the project hasn’t moved forward since its 2021 announcement. She has stayed connected to Indian cinema as a producer, with her latest project being the Marathi film Paani.

Currently, Priyanka is busy filming the second season of Citadel for Prime Video. She also has two upcoming movies—Heads of State with Idris Elba and John Cena, and The Bluff.
