Urvashi Rautela recently opened up about her experiences working with much older co-stars in Bollywood, specifically her pairing with Sunny Deol in the 2013 film Singh Saab the Great. Despite their significant age difference—nearly 40 years—Rautela expressed no discomfort, highlighting the benefits of collaborating with established stars who have substantial fan bases.
Reflecting on her experience, Urvashi shared in an interview with iDiva, “It’s the biggest age gap in the history of Bollywood, correct me if I’m wrong. We had a 38-year age gap. I was younger than his sons as well. But if the director thinks there’s no problem, it’s okay.” She also mentioned that she is set to break her own record with her upcoming film, NBK 109, where she stars opposite Nandamuri Balakrishna, who is in his 60s. “I’m paired opposite Balakrishna garu, and it’s the biggest age-gap in the history of Indian cinema,” she stated proudly.
When asked if she felt uncomfortable with the age difference, Urvashi responded, “The more the age gap is, it benefits the film. The older a star is, the more fans they have. Cinema-wise, it benefits the film a lot, but personally, no.” Her comments reflect a common trend in the Indian film industry, where older men are often paired with younger women.
This theme was echoed by actress Manushi Chhillar in a separate interview with Zoom. She discussed her own experience of working with Akshay Kumar, who has a 30-year age gap with her. Chhillar acknowledged the dynamics of such casting decisions, stating, “There are many facets to this. I can only speak for myself. He is a superstar. Many want to work with him; I want to work with him. We are all fans, but I don’t cast for films.”
Singh Saab the Great was released during a lull in Sunny Deol’s career, but he recently made a significant comeback with the blockbuster success of Gadar 2, one of the highest-grossing films of 2023. Following this resurgence, Deol has several projects lined up, including Lahore: 1947, Border 2, and a newly announced film titled Jaat.
