The much-anticipated Diwali box office clash between Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Singham Again lived up to its hype, with both films performing strongly over the opening weekend. Despite each film carving out its own space, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 producer Bhushan Kumar revealed that efforts were made to avoid the clash.
Speaking to Bollywood Hungama, Bhushan Kumar shared that discussions took place to find a solution. However, pre-existing commitments and creative needs prevented any rescheduling. “Both franchises hold significant value, and we tried to avoid the clash,” Kumar explained. “But commitments, like OTT agreements, made it challenging. They had similar constraints.”
He noted that Singham Again had a creative reason to release on Diwali, as its theme is tied to the Ramayan. “We both tried to avoid the clash, but due to these factors, it couldn’t be done. Both films are doing well, and I’m glad about that,” Bhushan added.
While both films saw impressive openings, the festival clash resulted in divided business. Bhushan acknowledged this but confirmed that Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 has had a strong start, securing its position.
There was also a dispute over screen allocation between the two films. Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series approached the Competition Commission of India (CCI), raising concerns over what they considered unfair practices by the Singham Again team regarding screen distribution, and they demanded a 50-50 screen split.
Released on Friday alongside Singham Again, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 earned Rs 36.6 crore on its first day, with collections rising to Rs 38.4 crore on Saturday and Rs 35.2 crore on Sunday. However, it saw a 50% drop on Monday, bringing in Rs 19.2 crore and reaching a total of Rs 129.4 crore domestically.
Singham Again opened stronger with Rs 43.5 crore on Friday but experienced a steady decline, earning Rs 42.5 crore on Saturday and Rs 35.75 crore on Sunday. It also saw a 50% dip on Monday, collecting Rs 18 crore and bringing its total to Rs 139.75 crore domestically.
