Actress Rupali Ganguly, widely known for her role in Anupamaa, is in the spotlight due to allegations from her stepdaughter, Esha Verma. Esha has accused Rupali of causing the breakdown of her parents’ marriage and subjecting both her and her mother to mental, emotional, and physical abuse. The situation became more intense when Esha reportedly called her step-brother ‘illegitimate.’ In response, Rupali served Esha with a legal defamation notice, demanding Rs 50 crore in damages.
In a recent interview with Instant Bollywood, Rupali shared her feelings on the controversy. “If I say it doesn’t affect, it would be a lie. Of course, it hurts. We are all human. It stings when bad things are said about me, even behind my back,” she said. “But those who love me will continue to support me. I believe in doing good deeds, because they bring good things now or in the future. Bad phases happen, but in the end, good always prevails.”
Esha Verma had earlier accused Rupali of abusing both her and her mother, physically, mentally, and emotionally. She claimed that Rupali prevented her father, Ashwin K Verma, from maintaining contact with them. In her legal notice, Rupali asserted that Esha had overstepped by meddling in personal matters and tarnishing her reputation.
Rupali’s legal notice also pointed out that she had treated Esha kindly during her visits to India. The notice claimed that Rupali had even offered Esha a chance to enter the entertainment industry under her and Ashwin’s guidance. It mentioned that Rupali arranged photoshoots and auditions for Esha as well.
Earlier, Esha had expressed her feelings in an interview with SCREEN, calling Rupali an “ugly person inside and out.” Esha stated that Rupali, being much younger than her father, should have stayed away, especially since Esha and her mother were still part of his life. Esha described how Rupali allegedly harassed her mother with phone calls and verbal abuse. Esha, only 8 or 9 years old at the time, claimed that she was frightened and had to threaten Rupali with an object.
After this public dispute, Esha deleted her videos and made her social media accounts private. She has not commented further on the matter. Rupali, until recently, had stayed silent on the issue.
