The Telangana High Court on Friday granted interim bail to Telugu actor Allu Arjun. The actor was arrested earlier in the day following a stampede at the premiere of his film Pushpa 2 on December 4 in Hyderabad. The tragic incident claimed the life of a 39-year-old woman and left her son critically injured.
Incident Details
The stampede occurred at Sandhya Theatre during the film’s premiere. Police stated they were not informed in advance about the actor’s presence at the event. The situation escalated when Arjun arrived with his personal security, causing the crowd to surge toward him. The chaos led to severe injuries and the tragic death of M. Revathi, a homemaker who attended the premiere with her son, a fan of the actor.
Legal Actions
A case was filed against the theatre management, Arjun, and his security team under multiple sections, including culpable homicide not amounting to murder. Sandhya Theatre’s owner and two employees have already been arrested. Police alleged that the theatre failed to manage the crowd and did not provide separate entry or exit points for the actor’s team.
Arrest and Bail
Arjun was taken into custody by the Chikkadpally police and remanded to 14-day judicial custody. His lawyers filed a lunch motion petition in the Telangana High Court, seeking relief. The court granted him interim bail later in the day, allowing him temporary respite until further hearings.
Police and Court Proceedings
During the arrest, Arjun expressed dissatisfaction with the police for entering his bedroom without notice. He cooperated with authorities but criticized their approach. His father, producer Allu Aravind, accompanied him to the police station. After recording his statement, Arjun underwent a medical check-up at Gandhi Hospital and was presented before a magistrate.
Next Steps
The investigation is ongoing, with police focusing on the lapses by the theatre management and security arrangements. Arjun’s plea to clear his name from the FIR is yet to be heard in court.
