NVIDIA recently launched a sleek new app, replacing the decade-old GeForce Experience and Control Panel. While the tech giant claimed the new app is 50% more responsive, gamers have reported performance drops and stutters in several games.
The Issue
According to NVIDIA, the performance problems stem from a bug related to Game Filters in the app. Even gamers who don’t actively use filters have reported frame rate drops. The issue appears to affect performance across various resolutions, with a 6% performance drop at 1080p and 2.5% at 1440p (2K) in some cases.
NVIDIA’s Response
NVIDIA acknowledged the problem on its official support forum, stating, “We are aware of a reported performance issue related to Game Filters and are actively investigating.”
In the meantime, the company suggests the following workaround:
- Disable Game Filters:
- Open the NVIDIA app.
- Go to Settings > Features > Overlay > Game Filters and Photo Mode.
- Turn off Game Filters.
- Relaunch Your Game to see improved performance.
Impact on Games
As reported by Toms Hardware, some games experienced a 15% performance drop when using the default NVIDIA app settings. However, disabling the app overlay or uninstalling the app entirely resulted in better frame rates for certain titles.
Temporary Fix for Gamers
If you don’t use the app’s advanced features, consider uninstalling it and installing the latest drivers only. This ensures you avoid performance issues while waiting for NVIDIA to release a fix.
No Timeline for a Fix Yet
NVIDIA has yet to announce when the bug will be resolved, leaving users with the temporary solution of disabling Game Filters and Photo Mode to improve frame rates.
