Indian badminton star PV Sindhu has started a new chapter in her life by marrying entrepreneur Venkata Datta Sai. The 29-year-old Olympian, known for winning a bronze medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics and a silver at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021, tied the knot with Datta in a private ceremony on Sunday. Datta is the executive director at Posidex Technologies.
The wedding, held in Udaipur, was a traditional affair, with close family and friends in attendance. Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, the Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, shared the first photograph of the couple on social media. He tweeted, “Pleased to have attended the wedding ceremony of our Badminton Champion Olympian PV Sindhu with Venkatta Datta Sai in Udaipur last evening. I conveyed my wishes & blessings to the couple for their new life ahead.”
The wedding celebrations began with a vibrant Sangeet ceremony on December 20, full of music and dance, as both families came together. This was followed by traditional rituals such as Haldi, Pellikuthuru, Mehendi, and other cultural practices on December 21.
Sindhu’s wedding announcement came shortly after her victory at the Syed Modi International in Lucknow, where she ended a long drought of titles. With five medals, including a gold, at the BWF World Championships, and two Olympic medals, Sindhu is considered one of India’s greatest athletes.
The newlyweds have invited top celebrities, including cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to their wedding reception.
