Ameesha Patel recently revealed the extreme physical and mental toll she endured while shooting a water sequence for Gadar 2 in Himachal Pradesh. The actress, 49, recalled how the freezing temperatures and cold water nearly led to a life-threatening experience on set.
Shocking Incident on Set
Patel described how, during the scene, she was showered with freezing cold water while wearing only a salwar-kameez. “The first time the water was showered, it was shockingly cold. After finishing the scene, I lost consciousness. I was unconscious for three to four hours, and people thought I was dead,” Patel shared during a YouTube chat with Jarp media. She said her team wrapped her in woolen blankets, and when she regained consciousness, she had no recollection of the event.
Health Risks of Cold Exposure
Doctors explain that sudden exposure to cold water can cause significant strain on the body, especially in extreme conditions. Dr. Manisha Arora, an internal medicine director, noted that the shock of cold can elevate heart rate and blood pressure. Dr. Muzamil Sultan Koka, a critical care specialist, highlighted the risks for individuals with existing health conditions, such as heart disease, and warned that prolonged exposure to cold water could lead to hypothermia.
Dr. Sudhir Kumar, a consultant neurologist, explained the dangers of hypothermia, which occurs when the body temperature drops below 35°C. He said, “Severe hypothermia can cause slurred speech, shallow breathing, confusion, and even unconsciousness, which could be fatal.”
Precautions for Cold Exposure
Doctors emphasize the importance of cautious exposure to cold. “It’s crucial to warm the body core first and avoid prolonged exposure to extremely cold conditions,” said Dr. Kumar. Cold exposure can also cause frostbite, respiratory issues, and exacerbate joint pain.
Dr. Koka advised those considering cold showers to “consult a healthcare professional, start slow, and gradually decrease the temperature to help the body adjust.”
