In a major breakthrough, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has detained Boby Chemmanur, chairman of Chemmanur International Group, in connection with Malayalam actor Honey Rose’s sexual harassment complaint. According to PTI, Chemmanur was taken into custody in Wayanad on Wednesday under non-bailable charges based on Rose’s allegations.
The Kerala police formed the SIT on Tuesday to probe the accusations made by Rose, who accused Chemmanur of making “repeated sexually coloured” remarks. Initially, Rose did not name the accused in her social media post but later filed a formal complaint.
Asianet News reported that Chemmanur was detained while traveling to Coimbatore for a showroom inauguration. He will be transported to Kochi, where his formal arrest is expected. Rose had earlier contacted Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the state police chief, receiving assurances of strict action.
Following the detention, Rose expressed relief, stating, “I trust the government and police to protect me. I fought because the harassment, both online and offline, had gone too far. It felt like a show of superiority and power through money. I decided it had to stop.”
In a statement to Mathrubhumi News, Rose said, “I feel immense relief, like a weight has been lifted. The Chief Minister assured me of action, and he kept his word. The quick action reflects the efficiency of our system.” Rose also noted an improvement in social media behavior towards her since the police intervened.
The controversy began on Sunday when Rose shared on social media that she was being stalked and subjected to derogatory remarks. Offensive online reactions prompted her to file a police complaint the same night.
The Kochi Central Police registered a case against 30 individuals based on her complaint, leading to one arrest: Shaji, a 60-year-old resident of Panangadu.
