Former PM Manmohan Singh Passes Away at 92 in Delhi’s AIIMS

Dr. Manmohan Singh Dies at 92

Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, the 14th PM of India and a key architect of the country’s economic reforms, passed away in New Delhi on Thursday. He was 92 years old. Singh was admitted to the emergency department of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), where he later passed away. The hospital confirmed his death.

Despite being administered CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation), attempts to revive him were unsuccessful, sources reported.

Born on September 26, 1932, in Gah village, now in Pakistan, Singh led a remarkable life filled with service, scholarship, and leadership. He earned a Master’s degree in Economics from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and later completed his doctorate at the University of Oxford.

Dr. Singh served as India’s Prime Minister from May 22, 2004, to May 26, 2014. His leadership spanned over 3,650 days, making him the third-longest-serving PM in India after Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi.

Before entering politics, Singh had a distinguished career in government. He began as Economic Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Trade in 1971 and held key roles, including Chief Economic Advisor in the Ministry of Finance, Director at the Reserve Bank of India, and Alternate Governor at the Asian Development Bank.

Singh’s legacy is inseparable from the 1991 economic reforms he championed as Finance Minister. These reforms not only liberalized the Indian economy but also integrated it into the global market.

As Prime Minister, Singh focused on inclusive growth, social welfare, and diplomacy, guiding India through global economic challenges. He strengthened India’s global standing, earning respect for his leadership and vision.

India mourns the loss of a great statesman whose integrity and contributions shaped the nation’s modern history.
