Kerala embarks on a new journey of environmental transformation as Fr. Eldhose Mathew takes charge as the Chairman of the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) for the state. Appointed by the Central Ministry, his leadership promises a rejuvenation of Kerala’s environmental conservation and sustainable development sectors.
Fr. Eldhose Mathew brings a clear and ambitious vision to his role, focusing on sustainable development and environmental conservation. In a recent interview, he shared his commitment to establishing a proactive and inclusive governance model. “This body consisting of the chairman, vice chairman, and directors will function like no other, to protect the basic right to clean air, clean water, and a livable climate; to preserve our region’s natural treasures and rich biodiversity; and to provide a healthy environment for all,” said Shri. Mathew.
The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change serves as the backbone of India’s environmental policies, ensuring the effective planning, coordination, and execution of projects. It acts as a nodal agency, aligning with international platforms such as the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), South Asia Co-operative Environment Programme (SACEP), and the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
