Justice Served: Malvi Malhotra’s Attacker Convicted

Malvi Malhotra

Television actress Malvi Malhotra has finally found justice nearly four years after a harrowing incident in which she was stabbed for rejecting a marriage proposal. A Mumbai sessions court has convicted and sentenced Yogesh Mahipal Singh, who falsely claimed to be a producer, to three years of rigorous imprisonment for attempted murder and stalking.

On the evening of October 26, 2020, Malvi was attacked in the Versova area of Andheri, where she sustained stab wounds to her abdomen and hands. Following the assailant’s escape, local residents rushed her to the hospital, and she ultimately recovered from her injuries. The police quickly registered a case against Singh, leading to his recent conviction.

Reflecting on the traumatic experience, Malvi told News18, “There was a lot of mental trauma I went through. More than the physical scars, it was the mental agony that impacted me.” She revealed that she struggled with PTSD after the attack, living in constant fear as if someone were always following her. “But my family, especially my dad, helped me. He told me that physical injuries would heal, but I shouldn’t live my life in fear. He encouraged me to learn self-defense and to step out of the house to do things that make me happy,” she shared.

Malvi’s interactions with Singh began in 2019 when she accepted a friend request from him on Facebook. After a few chats and meetings, he proposed, and upon her rejection, he persistently pressured her to marry him, prompting her to cut ties. On the night of the attack, Singh confronted her in his Audi, demanding to talk. When she ignored him, he assaulted her with a knife.

In addition to her roles in Hindi films, Malvi has appeared in Malayalam and Telugu films, as well as various television serials and music videos. This verdict marks a crucial step toward justice for Malvi and underscores the urgent need to address violence against women and the profound psychological impact it can have on survivors.
