Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing how we interact with the internet, and now Meta, the company led by Mark Zuckerberg, plans to take AI even further. According to a recent report by the Financial Times, Meta is considering the introduction of AI bots on its social media platforms, including Facebook and Instagram.
The goal is to attract and retain a younger audience by offering a suite of new AI-powered products. One such product will allow users to create AI characters on both platforms. These AI bots will function like user profiles, complete with bios and profile pictures, and will be capable of generating and sharing content, powered by AI.
Connor Hayes, Vice President of Product for Generative AI at Meta, explained that the company envisions these AI bots existing on the platforms much like user accounts. He added that Meta plans to develop these AI characters using its AI Studio.
AI Studio enables users to create characters based on their interests, and even design an AI version of themselves. Currently, the service is available only in the United States, but Meta intends to expand it globally later this year.
While not all users may embrace the idea of AI bots in their social media experience, there are potential benefits. For example, AI bots could help identify and flag fake news shared on Facebook, helping users avoid misinformation. However, there’s also the risk that such bots could be used to spread false information.
