After multiple delays, Mohanlal’s long-awaited directorial debut, Barroz 3D: Guardian of Treasure, is set to hit theatres this Christmas. The movie, which had fans wondering if it would ever release, will now arrive on December 25, coinciding with the anniversary of the actor’s own debut in Malayalam cinema. The announcement was followed by the unveiling of the official 3D trailer, which has generated significant excitement among audiences.
The 123-second trailer offers an exciting peek into the world of Barroz, a 400-year-old spirit guarding a treasure in the de Gama palace. As a child’s voice echoes, “There is a badass ghost in the de Gama palace,” Barroz emerges, sword and shield in hand, ready to protect the treasure at any cost. The trailer showcases stunning visuals and intricate production design, hinting at an adventure filled with both heartwarming moments and intense battles between good and evil.
Barroz is not just a children’s fantasy film but promises a thrilling storyline with strong emotional undertones. The film also highlights Barroz’s endearing connection with children, adding a layer of warmth to the high-stakes action.
Director Fazil, who launched Mohanlal’s career in 1980 with Manjil Virinja Pookkal, announced the new release date on November 15. He explained that the date holds deep sentimental value, marking both Mohanlal’s cinematic debut and the release of Manichitrathazhu (1993), one of Malayalam cinema’s greatest films, directed by Fazil himself. Manichitrathazhu became a massive success and was later remade into multiple languages, including Bhool Bhulaiyaa (2007) and Chandramukhi (2005).
Produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas, Barroz features Santosh Sivan as the director of photography, with TK Rajeev Kumar serving as the creative head. Santhosh Raman designed the sets, and B Ajith Kumar handled editing. The film’s music is composed by Mark Kilian (USA) for the background score and Lydian Nadaswaram for the soundtrack.
The movie also stars Kallirroi Tziafeta, Ignacio Mateos, and Guru Somasundaram in key roles. According to IMDb, the story follows Barroz, a 400-year-old spirit, who has been entrusted with guarding D’Gama’s treasure, awaiting the arrival of a true descendant of D’Gama to pass it on.
With its fantasy setting, emotional depth, and Mohanlal’s strong involvement, Barroz 3D is shaping up to be a must-watch for fans this Christmas.
