Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his last rally in Maharashtra before the November 20 elections, strongly criticized the Congress party for its lack of vision regarding Mumbai’s development. He stated that the Congress, both at the central and state levels, had ignored the city’s growth for decades.
He said, “For years, the Congress government didn’t plan for Mumbai’s future. As a result, the city fell behind. Mumbai stands for honesty, hard work, and progress, while Congress represents corruption and stagnation.”
Modi highlighted that during Congress rule, Mumbai suffered terror attacks. He recalled that authorities used to warn people to report unattended bags or cookers. Today, however, citizens feel safe traveling on local buses and trains.
The Prime Minister pointed out several developments under the Mahayuti government, including city infrastructure modernization, ensuring the safety of residents, and supporting women and startups. He accused the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government of trying to divide communities and blocking vital infrastructure projects in Mumbai.
He added, “Every major city in the world works toward modernization, and we have similar plans for Mumbai. Our government is committed to improving connectivity. Multiple projects, such as Metro lines, local trains, and bridges, are being carried out at a rapid pace.”
Modi also criticized the MVA for opposing the Ram Mandir, using the term “bhagwa aatankwad,” and insulting freedom fighter VD Savarkar to gain votes. He mentioned that the MVA wanted to bring back Article 370 in Kashmir, a move he said insulted Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar’s Constitution. The Congress, he noted, had failed to designate Marathi as a classical language during its rule.
In a rally at Panvel, Modi criticized Congress for its “Garibi Hatao” slogan, accusing the party of looting the poor. He remarked that Congress opposed the progress of the poor, as their benefits made the party unhappy. “Congress excels in vote bank politics, but they are enemies of the poor,” Modi said, urging the poor to unite and stop Congress.
At Sambhaji Nagar, Modi raised concerns about those opposing the name of Sambhaji Maharaj, calling them enemies of Maharashtra and Maratha pride. He praised the Mahayuti government for renaming Aurangabad to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, fulfilling Balasaheb Thackeray’s long-standing wish. Modi also emphasized that the highest foreign direct investment in Maharashtra came after the BJP-led Mahayuti government was formed.
