As the BJP shifts its attention to Maharashtra following elections in Haryana and Jammu & Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled for his second visit to the state in two weeks. His itinerary includes visits to Vidarbha and Mumbai-Thane, politically crucial regions, where he will unveil infrastructure projects and promote welfare schemes.
In Vidarbha, a key area with 62 Assembly seats, Modi will inaugurate the ‘Banjara Virasat Museum’ in Washim, a nod to the influential Banjara community. He will also visit the Jagdamba Mata Temple, a prominent pilgrimage site, as part of BJP’s efforts to reconnect with community voters amidst declining popularity among Dalits and Kunbis. The Congress has been effective in courting Dalit voters, while the Kunbi community remains discontented over the unresolved Maratha quota issue.
The BJP aims to regain its stronghold in Vidarbha after a dip in 2019 when its Assembly seat tally dropped from 44 to 29. To aid this effort, a team from Madhya Pradesh has been deployed to collaborate with local leaders on outreach strategies.
Modi’s visit will also feature the launch of agricultural and animal husbandry projects worth ₹23,300 crore, along with disbursing the 18th installment of the PM-KISAN scheme, benefiting 9.4 crore farmers nationwide. Additionally, the Prime Minister will inaugurate several infrastructure projects in Mumbai, including developments under the Mumbai Metro initiative, targeting BJP’s influence in urban strongholds traditionally aligned with Shiv Sena leader Eknath Shinde.
