Pune International Airport recorded its highest passenger traffic of the year in November, marking a 44% growth in international passengers and a 5% increase in domestic flyers compared to October.
In November, the airport welcomed 20,554 international passengers, an impressive rise of 6,316 compared to October’s 14,238. This increase helped Pune Airport surpass 1.70 lakh international passengers from January to November. Domestic passenger traffic also saw growth, reaching 8.80 lakh flyers, up from 8.44 lakh in October.
Despite the growth in international passenger traffic, domestic traffic showed a more significant increase, with over 35,000 additional flyers contributing to the airport’s rising numbers. This trend is expected to continue into December.
November also surpassed the previous record of 8.94 lakh passengers, set in May, by crossing the 9 lakh mark for total monthly passenger traffic, combining both domestic and international flyers.
Santosh Dhoke, the Airport Director, attributed the rise in passenger numbers to the launch of new flights and regional connectivity initiatives. In November, IndiGo launched two direct flights from Pune to Dubai and Bangkok. The Pune-Dubai flight departs daily at 5:40 pm, and the Pune-Bangkok flight operates three times a week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Looking ahead, December is expected to see further growth in international traffic, as Air India Express began operating a direct flight from Pune to Bangkok on December 21. Currently, five international flights operate from Pune Airport, connecting it to Singapore, Bangkok, and Dubai.
