Pune is set to host the 2025 Army Day Parade on January 15, marking the third time the event will take place outside New Delhi. The Indian Army launched a promotional video for the event at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa on Sunday, where it received an enthusiastic response from cinephiles, international delegates, and industry leaders.
Bollywood stars R Madhavan and Rakul Preet Singh featured in the video, expressing their excitement for the parade and praising the dedication of Indian soldiers. They encouraged citizens to attend this grand national event.
This decision is part of the Union government’s initiative to hold important events outside the national capital, ensuring broader participation and visibility. Previously, Bangalore hosted the Army Day Parades in 2023 and 2024.
Pune, known for its rich military history, serves as the headquarters of the Southern Command and houses prestigious defense institutions like the National Defence Academy (NDA) and the College of Military Engineering (CME). The Army Day Parade will take place at the Bombay Engineering Group and Centre in Pune. The event will showcase marching contingents, mechanized columns, and displays of cutting-edge defense technologies, including drones and robotics. Exciting performances such as combat demonstrations and martial arts displays are also expected.
Army Day, celebrated annually on January 15, commemorates the day in 1949 when General (later Field Marshal) KM Cariappa became the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, taking over from the last British Commander-in-Chief, General Sir FRR Bucher.
