Rakul Preet Singh has publicly condemned Konda Surekha, a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader, for making defamatory comments linking her and Samantha Ruth Prabhu to political controversies. In a heartfelt statement on social media, Rakul expressed her disappointment over the baseless rumors targeting women in the film industry and criticized Surekha for dragging her name into politics.
Rakul highlighted her deep connection with the Telugu film industry, praising its global reputation for creativity and professionalism. She emphasized her neutral stance in politics, urging political figures to refrain from using her or her colleagues for political agendas. “Our silence should not be mistaken for weakness,” she stated, calling for dignity in the public sphere.
The controversy stems from Surekha’s earlier claims about BRS leader KTR’s alleged involvement in drug parties and suggesting a political link to Naga Chaitanya and Samantha’s divorce. Many in the film industry, including SS Rajamouli, Jr NTR, Allu Arjun, and Nagarjuna, rallied in support of Rakul and Samantha, condemning Surekha’s remarks as irresponsible and defamatory.
After widespread backlash, Surekha retracted her statements, clarifying that her intent was to question the disrespect shown towards women, not to cause offense. However, the incident has ignited a broader conversation about the respect and dignity needed in political discourse, particularly when addressing personal matters.
