Congress Parliamentary Party chief Sonia Gandhi inaugurated the party’s new national headquarters at 9A, Kotla Road, New Delhi, on Wednesday. The event was attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and several prominent party leaders.
The ceremony, which began with the hoisting of the party flag and chanting of Vande Mataram, also saw the presence of Congress general secretary (organization) KC Venugopal, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, and Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, among others.
The new headquarters, named Indira Gandhi Bhawan, has been in the making for over 15 years. Venugopal expressed pride in the moment, stating, “This building is not just a structure of bricks; it is a testament to the dedication of Congress workers who have served the nation through the party.”
The event was attended by around 400 top leaders from across India, including members of the Congress Working Committee, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) presidents, MPs from both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, former Chief Ministers, and Union Ministers.
The foundation stone for the building was laid in December 2009 by then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Sonia Gandhi, but the construction took 15 years to complete.
