The Supreme Court will review the NEET PG case tomorrow, addressing concerns from students about the transparency of the results and the normalisation process used by the National Board of Examinations for Medical Sciences (NBEMS). The petition, originally filed on September 7, had its first hearing on September 13.
A three-judge bench, led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, along with Justice Manoj Misra and Justice JB Pardiwala, held a hearing on September 20. The primary focus was on the normalisation of marks, answer keys, and the results of the NEET PG medical entrance exam.
During the initial hearing, the petitioners demanded greater transparency from the NBEMS. They requested the release of the NEET PG answer key, response sheets, raw scores, pre-normalized scores, and normalized results for all exam shifts. They also urged that sharing NEET PG answer keys and question papers should become a standard practice to ensure fairness. Additionally, they asked for the counselling process to be paused until these transparency issues are resolved.
This year’s NEET PG exam followed a new two-shift format instead of the usual single-shift format. Conducted on August 11, the first shift was from 9 am to 12:30 pm, and the second shift was from 3:30 pm to 7 pm. Due to this new format, the NBEMS implemented a normalisation process to adjust the scores across shifts.
