NEW DELHI: The Samajwadi Party (SP), led by Akhilesh Yadav, has declared its non-participation in the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, spearheaded by Rahul Gandhi, until an agreement on seat-sharing with the Congress is reached. Akhilesh Yadav emphasized the ongoing discussions between the two parties, stating, “The moment seat distribution is finalized, Samajwadi Party will join their Nyaya Yatra.” Initially, SP offered 11 seats to Congress, which countered with a demand for more. Subsequently, SP increased its offer to 15 seats, as per PTI reports.
This announcement has sparked widespread speculation in political circles, especially considering the recent absence of TMC’s Mamata Banerjee, a prominent INDIA bloc member, from the yatra in West Bengal. Despite earlier accepting an invitation from Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to join the yatra in either Amethi or Rae Bareli, Akhilesh’s current stance puts a temporary hold on SP’s involvement.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, following the Bharat Jodo Yatra, is currently on its 37th day, with plans to traverse 6,700 km across 15 states before the Lok Sabha elections. Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi are set to rally in Babuganj before heading to Amethi and Raebareli, continuing their campaign for national unity and justice.
