Malayalam cinema continues its golden run in 2024, with Haneef Adeni’s ‘Marco’, starring Unni Mukundan, joining the ₹100 crore club within just 15 days of its release. The film, which premiered on December 20, was the penultimate Malayalam release of the year and has been widely discussed for being the “most violent Indian movie” to date.
Production Milestone and Records
On Sunday, production house Cubes Entertainments shared the milestone on social media, making Marco the sixth Malayalam film in 2024 to achieve this feat. The others include ‘Manjummel Boys’ (₹240.5 crore), ‘Aadujeevitham’ (₹157.35 crore), ‘Aavesham’ (₹154.79 crore), ‘Premalu’ (₹131.18 crore), and ‘Ajayante Randam Moshanam’ (₹107.3 crore). The numbers were confirmed by industry tracker Sacnilk.
Expanding International Reach
Marco is now set to release in South Korea, aiming for the largest opening for an Indian movie in the East Asian market. It also broke records domestically, with the highest number of shows and screens on a single day in India, and became the highest-grossing Malayalam film on its release day in Telugu-speaking states, earning ₹1.75 crore.
A Star-Studded Team
The action thriller features a stellar cast, including Siddique, Yukti Thareja, Jagadish, Abhimanyu Thilakan, Anson Paul, and Kabir Duhan Singh. Produced by Shareef Muhammed under the Cubes Entertainments banner, the film’s music and background score were composed by Ravi Basrur, with cinematography by Chandru Selvaraj, stunts by Kalai Kingson, and editing by Shameer Muhammed.
