The following sustainable initiatives were taken at Paris Fashion Week 2023:
- The Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM), the governing body of Paris Fashion Week, implemented a number of sustainability initiatives, including:
- Requiring all brands to use at least 50% sustainable materials in their collections.
- Banning the use of single-use plastics at all events.
- Promoting the use of recycled and upcycled materials.
- Offsetting the carbon footprint of the event.
- A number of brands also took their own sustainability initiatives, including:
- Chloe: Chloe partnered with the environmental organization Canopy to ensure that all of its fabrics are sourced from sustainable forests.
- Stella McCartney: Stella McCartney used a variety of sustainable materials in her collection, including recycled polyester, organic cotton, and vegan leather.
- Chanel: Chanel offset the carbon footprint of its show by investing in renewable energy projects.
In addition to these initiatives, there was a growing awareness of sustainability at Paris Fashion Week 2023. Many brands and designers spoke about the importance of sustainability in the fashion industry, and there were a number of panels and discussions on the topic.
Overall, Paris Fashion Week 2023 was a step in the right direction for the fashion industry in terms of sustainability. However, there is still more work to be done. The fashion industry is one of the most polluting industries in the world, and it is important for brands and consumers to continue to make changes to reduce the environmental impact of fashion.
